Project Spotlight – Shops at Civica (Miami, FL)

- Project: Shops at Civica
- Application: Solids interceptor before grease interceptors for DERM Miami Dade County
- Product: CB-1000-S (x1): Catch Basin — Customized with 3 outlets
- Rep | Regional: RSL Sales (Mario Rubines) | Danny Ritz
Background:
Miami has some of the strictest wastewater regulations in the country, particularly regarding grease and oil. For this large mall and shopping center project, a unique solution was required. Miami’s code mandates that a solids interceptor be installed upstream of grease interceptors. In this case, the project was designed to accommodate (24) Schier GB-250 units, arranged in 3 rows of 8 units, in series.
To ensure solids-free wastewater reached all three rows of grease interceptors, a specialized solution was needed. Striem custom-designed a CB-1000-SFL solids interceptor with three outlets for this application. Precision was critical — both in cutting the outlets and installing the tank level to ensure equal effluent flow from each outlet.
Key Takeaway:
Mario from RSL Sales is always looking for creative solutions to complex problems. He often envisions a solution first, then turns to Striem to help bring it to life. In this case, while the overall system had a large footprint, consolidating it into a single solids interceptor was crucial to securing the project and supporting the engineer.
