Background:
Royal Wine Corp is a prominent manufacturer, importer, and distributor of wines, spirits, and liqueurs. This new winery and warehouse facility is located in the Hudson Valley. The opportunity emerged from a collaborative WMS Sales/Striem lunch-and-learn with an engineering firm based in Albany, NY.

Specifics:

  • First Tank Location and Flow: The first tank is positioned outside the juice processing room and connects to the trench drains via an 8″ line, allowing the tank to comfortably accommodate a peak flow rate of 400 GPM.

  • Second Tank Location and Flow: The second tank is located outside a diatomaceous earth (DE) filtration room. With a 6″ connection from the trench drains, we were able to accept peak flows of up to 295 GPM.

  • Design Intent: Both tanks serve as large settling reservoirs for particulate capture. The client also uses a bleach solution for cleaning and disinfection, making our polyethylene tanks essential due to their chemical compatibility.

  • Temperature Considerations: There is potential for intermittent wastewater temperatures reaching 180°F. While Striem tanks are rated for a continuous temperature of 140°F, our engineers were confident that our solution would handle the occasional higher temperature without compromising the tanks’ integrity.

Key Takeaways:

  • Tank Specifications: Our larger tanks (500-2000 gallon) can be built with 8″ connections. For product-specific options, always reference the individual specification sheet.

  • Flow Rates: Flow rates for catch basins are not listed by default. Always consult Striem if flow rates or temperature ratings are a concern for your application.

  • Territory Collaboration: This project is located in Goshen, NY, in the EPD territory, while the spec originated from Albany, NY, in the WMS territory.

    • WMS was instrumental in securing the specification.
    • EPD facilitated the order, supported the contractor with questions, and provided excellent project photos.
  • Acknowledgment: Both WMS and EPD received sales credit/commission for their roles. Thank you to both teams!
