Project Spotlight – University of California

- Project: University of California, Riverside
- Application: Science Labs – Centralized Neutralization Tank
- Products:
- Rep | Regional: Delco Sales | Danny Ritz
Background:
In March, an official from the University of California, Riverside, contacted Delco Sales with questions about the centralized acid neutralization tank specified for the new School of Medicine Education Building. The tank, a Striem LB-275, raised concerns regarding direct burial, material of construction, and the ability to monitor tank performance and sample the pH of the effluent water.
To address these concerns, Delco organized a virtual meeting with all key stakeholders, including the City of Riverside, university officials, the installing contractor, the specifying engineer, the architect, and Striem. On the call, Striem Regional Managers, Danny Ritz and Andrew Heck, highlighted Striem’s core value adds:
- Lifetime Warranty
Striem stands behind the material quality and structural integrity of every product with a lifetime warranty—even for directly buried acid neutralization tanks. Many engineers feel compelled to specify double-walled tanks, but that still assumes one wall will eventually fail, requiring costly excavation and replacement. With Striem, if a failure ever occurs, it’s covered—period. - Quality Products
Striem’s CC-1 Command Center pH Monitoring System continuously monitors effluent pH, recording data every minute and storing up to two years of results. This capability satisfied university and city officials’ concerns about performance tracking and water quality compliance. - Damn Good Customer Service
Danny partnered closely with the contractor throughout installation by addressing questions on burial, piping, and venting on a weekly basis. Delco was also on-site during installation to provide support if needed.
Key Takeaways:
-
Assume it’s new for many – While Striem deals with neutralization tanks daily, most people involved in this project—contractors, inspectors, and university officials—were experiencing a centralized system for the first time. Education and guidance were essential.
-
Identify decision-makers early – Winning the spec is only step one. In this case, both the university and city had critical influence over approval and installation. Engaging Striem Regionals early helped align all parties.
-
Support beyond the product – Striem is more than just a manufacturer. From venting pathways to code compliance, Striem supported contractors, engineers, and architects every step of the way.
